Taking a leaf from the traditional charpoy – a single bed used in every modest Indian home for an afternoon siesta or to sleep guests overnight – the Charpai daybed is a work of art by German designer Hanne Willmann.
The best part of having a daybed at home is that it can be used for different purposes. It is a place to take a nap, read a book or even brainstorm or daydream. Most daybeds today feature built-in storage to keep belongings neatly organized but the Charpai begs to differ.
Presented by Schönbuch, the Charpai touts clear and contemporary feel accentuated by the solid oak frame and natural oil or open-pore lacquer.
Despite the lack of storage space, the Charpai has varied functions. In addition to a bed, it can be used as a bench for sitting and reclining; as a makeshift sofa to seat guests in the living room; and with upholstery removed, as a side table to keep books, mags and more.

Available in a range of colors, the daybed is paired with three flat cushions, arrangeable in different ways to make Charpai your own. These cushions can be further customized in a choice of fabric or leather.
