If you are a well-known connoisseur of unique chair designs, you must have heard about the iconic Zig Zag Chair. Designed by Gerrit Rietveld sometime between 1930 and 1934, the furniture is not only regarded a symbol of oddity for its Z-shape but is also considered one of the most comfortable seats ever made. The unprecedented design is revived now as a limited-edition Zig Zag Chair with a slight tweak by Italian brand Cassina in collaboration with One Block Down.
There is no change in the iconic shape and size of the chair. It’s almost the same as the traditional one. However, the new Cassina Zig Zag Chair features a metal sheet covering the wooden elements. The metal layering adds more aesthetics to the chair and makes the new interpretation sexy and sassy. It is still poised on a wooden base with sheet metal panels adding beauty to it.
One Block Down also reflected its thought on the latest design. The retail company stated,
The amalgamation of wood and metal is a nod to One Block Down’s architecture – and, while these two opposing materials keep their natural feel, light manipulates its raw surfaces to create a sinuous form that almost seems to change shape.

Launched at Salone del Mobile 2022, the chair is limited to only 30 units, which are up for grabs at the official One Block Down store for €1,850 (approximately $1,950). Sorry for being a little biased, but for me, this is my personal favorite from Milan Furniture Week this year.
