New Zealand-based Cocoon Tiny Homes is known for playing the field with big and small micro-dwellings to cater to a vast Kiwi clientele. Sitting on the big end of the spectrum, its Casa Mia tiny house is steeped in pure luxury offering over 500 square feet of sophisticated interior that can comfortably sleep six people at a time. Flaunting the signature Kiwi tiny house exterior of black metal siding, the compact home has two full-height loft bedrooms, a giant living room, a full kitchen, a mudroom, and a bathroom.
The Casa Mia offers modern amenities of a traditional family home so you get to raise your kids with a downsized and sustainable lifestyle. The mono–pitch roof can be outfitted with solar panels to make the dwelling self-reliant, while roof gutters and downpipes enable rainwater harvesting. But these off-grid capabilities will be additional to the basic price of a turnkey Casa Mia at NZD 259,000 (roughly USD 163,000).
Dotted with multiple big windows and a tri-fold entrance, the indoor-outdoor connection is seamless in the Casa Mia. It posits an advantage where you can freely settle down in the countryside and enjoy the natural beauty, away from the hustle bustle, and pollution of city life.
At first glance, it looks like a shipping container home, thanks to its solid steel construction. Inside, the two-level dwelling packs the communal spaces on the lower level, while the private lofts are left as private sanctuaries. The front doors open into an open-floor living area, where two seating units make a queen-size bed to sleep two people. The space has multiple windows and double-height ceilings, which make it feel even more spacious.
The kitchen is sleek and allows the residents to cook lavish meals for large gatherings. As for the seating, there is a breakfast bar opposite the table, a fold-down table, and enough space to add a separate dining table.

Next to the kitchen is a storage-integrated staircase that leads to the loft bedroom. A small mudroom-style space has been left on the other side of the stairs with outdoor access. There are full-height closets here to store outdoor gear and seasonal accessories. Adjoining is the bathroom, which features a shower, a choice of toilet, and a vanity sink.
Both the lofts have enough space to accommodate king-size beds and feature storage. There are windows to keep the bedrooms ventilated and naturally lit, while doors offer privacy.
Although Casa Mia may not be the most impressive tiny house by Cocoon Tiny Homes, it is certainly the best family home. So when are you downsizing?
