Brody, a wordplay of “body and brain,” is a lounge designed to provide maximum comfort and distraction-free environment for maintaining smooth workflow in office. Steelcase is aiming to provide the ‘flow state’ so that the employees can concentrate on work or coursework assigned to them. The flow is a mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully engrossed in a feeling of energized focus, full contribution, and satisfaction in the process of the activity.
The lounge is shielded from three sides to eliminate distractions from the physical world. According to Mark McKenna, designer with Steelcase, Brody comes with a built-in power outlet and dedicated space for keeping personal stuff; the pod is intended to calm anxiety in workers. The lounge is made to keep the anxiety level under control by keeping personal stuff at arm’s length for controlling the concealed anxiety.
After doing an extensive research, the Steelcase team understood and observed that individuals under work pressure prefer to settle down for quite places with their back towards wall or just slouch down. The lounge comes with built-in light, comfortable seating and evolving table.
Brody is not only for office people, but is relevant to students too, as it has the capacity to allow you to escape from distractions and focus on your work. So, whether its office presentation, or annual reports, cocoon yourself inside the Brody and elude yourself from the office hush-hush to concentrate on your work.
