It’s interesting how a travel trailer, typically a squaredrop design is often seen as a muscular rig, while teardrop versions don’t get the same perception. Camper trailer manufacturers across the globe know this distinction pretty well and have been building ‘squaredrop campers’ that are tailor-made for adventures. The Built For Xtreme (BFX) trailer designed by Built For Xtreme (Harvest International-parent company) is a classic example of how modern-day adventurers are harping on a rugged and compact trailer that can handle off-road terrain, stay off-grid, and also transform into a fully functional hunting and camping base camp when needed.
Spoiler alert, the BFX trailer isn’t your traditional camper that is supposed to comply with the idea of family-friendly night outs. It’s a beast that is on an annihilation to trap, nab, and gun a predator down. This is the prime reason why BFX features a variety of locking compartments, sliding trays, and modular mounts, as makers wanted to dedicate spaces for everything from hunting and fishing gear to off-road recovery tools and satellite communications.
Starting with its off-road capability, the BFX trailer measures 14.5 feet long and features durable American-made steel panels and a powder-coated chassis that stand out on rugged terrains. The trailer is also equipped with a heavy-duty independent suspension system that includes shocks and airbags for each wheel, while Thunderer 35 x 12.50 R15LT tires offer 26 inches of ground clearance, easily handling off-road conditions.
The trailer includes several innovative features for both food preparation and outdoor gear management. It comes with a fishing rod holder that can carry up to four rods and multiple slide-outs that can hold gun cases, coolers, or other gear. The fold-down hatch provides a versatile workspace, with poly cutting boards for processing fish, and also functions as a prep surface for cooking. One side of the hatch can also hold a stove, cooking tools, or even a full knife block. Another standout feature of the BFX is its optional jib crane that is useful for lifting heavy equipment like spare tires or generators.
If you don’t yield to the idea of hunting and you still find yourself lured by BFX’s shiny exterior, don’t worry, the makers have got you covered. In addition to its hunter-friendly design, the camper also boasts a modular design that allows it to be customized for any outdoor enthusiast. So whether or not you are a hunter, the trailer features an ideal platform for a personalized, fully equipped base camp. This is possible courtesy of a pop-up tent that sleeps two adults eaisly. Accessed via a ladder, the tent tags alongside a 270-degree awning, the latter of which is an optional add-on.
In addition to core features, the trailer comes equipped with a ‘Mudbucket box’ to store two gallon-sized coffee growlers, along with a slide-out griddle for easy cooking of meals. It also includes a waterproof battery box that powers the onboard water system, floodlighting, and optional electrical accessories.
The water system is housed on the passenger side and includes a 151-liter freshwater tank, a tankless water heater, and connections for hoses, taps, or a shower. As mentioned, the BFX also maximizes storage space with a lockable storage box at the front and a mount for a satellite dish or TV. If you don’t indulge in hunting, BFX offers options for turning the trailer into a full camper, including a Roofnest rooftop tent. The tent sleeps two people comfortably.
