Deniz Aktay and his prolific designs are taking over the world. A man fascinated by CGI and 3D art has come with many mind boggling designs in the past with the likes of Bookgroove side table and Converse coffee table. This time around, the Stuttgart-based designer is flexing his muscles bending two plywood sheets. The result is a low coffee table with a unique shape.
Dubbed Attraction, the table is made up of two identical plywood sheets with a chestnut covering. The sheet is bent on each of its edges. “With its slim thickness it is possible to achieve the curving with steam-bending techniques making the design simple yet sophisticated at once,” Deniz tells me.
He further explains, “There are several advantages with the bending. First it increases the sheet’s stiffness by making the edges more rigid. Second, you generate a gap between the sheets creating an addition storage space in between them. This also generates the necessary height needed for a low coffee table. And thirdly these are the perfect joint locations to fix the two plywood sheets together.”
Boasting a lovely bit of design and built, the low coffee table is perfectly suited for entrances and living room equally. Apart from being a centerpiece for your living area, it is also a minimal piece of furniture that takes very less space and offers a lot of versatility. On the whole, the table looks like an inflated single sheet when filled with books in the gap which is very interesting and exciting to look at.
Featuring a flat top and curvy edges, the coffee table is a concept for now but may get a nod from any manufacturer tomorrow. Deniz brings the best use of Cinema4d with Corona renderer for the visualizations.
