The $180 Amazon Echo is quite popular among the tech crowd, as it can manage hell lot of tasks over its cloud-based voice service, Alexa. From being able to order a pizza, stream music from Spotify, to control Wink-compatible lighting, this tiny tube-shaped device has very well managed to monitor almost everything in smart homes, except thermostats.
But now Amazon’s voice-guided Echo aims at interacting with smart thermostats, staring with the Ecobee3. The new Ecobee-Echo integration can be set up easily via Amazon’s Alexa smartphone app. This means the users will be able to control the thermostat to increase the room’s temperature, set temperatures or cool them down using voice commands.
According to Stuart Lombard, president and CEO of Ecobee,
We’re excited to provide ecobee3 users with added functionality and convenience through Amazon Echo. Amazon has been a tremendous retailer to work with, and we are looking forward to expanding that relationship through thermostat integration with Echo, which offers complete home voice control.
May be in future we’ll see more of such Echo integrations with Nest or other smart home gadgets. It’s truly great to see how companies are collaborating for better and futuristic smart homes.
