With a background in architecture and expertise in various disciplines, Alexander Girard was a renowned American designer and architect who served as a key figure at Herman Miller from 1952-73. He has collaborated with Charles and Ray Eames to create unique patterns, furniture, and interiors.
His work blended folk art, bold colors, and playful motifs that still influence the design world. Honoring the legendary designer, Vitra has reproduced his famous Flower table that can now be a conversation starter in your home.
Girard had designed the Flower table in brass for Eero Saarinen’s famous Miller House in 1977, where it was displayed as a focal point in a sunken lounge area along with his signature textiles. In 2022, Vitra collaborated with Girard Studio, co-directed by Girard’s grandchildren, Aleishall Girard Maxon and Kori Girard to bring the table to the homes. The table is now mass-produced in a durable powder-coated steel version.
Available from Herman Miller, the Girard Flower Table features a round metal tabletop with scalloped edges and a repeating petal-shaped pattern to create the base. With its playful silhouette, this design was his take on a blooming flower, which continues to make a bold statement. Made from powder-coated steel, it can be used in both indoor and outdoor spaces.
