Hiking is a burgeoning trend among outdoor enthusiasts. However, the concerning cause is the waste left behind as an environmental threat. To tackle the situation, designer Kunrui Peng has developed a blow-up toilet. Dubbed AirPot inflatable toilet, it is lightweight enough for hikers to carry along. Perhaps, a viable solution to avoid leaving any human waste behind after a trip.
The AirPot inflatable toilet is designed as an alternative to burying waste in the ground. Peng’s growing concern and the irresponsible nature of humans have prompted him to conduct research and envision this useful design. The creator mentions, “I came up with this idea after discovering some irresponsible ‘remains’ deep in the forest while out hiking with my mother.”
This toilet is made from PU-coated polyester and nylon which is typically used for tents. Meanwhile, the upper part of the seat is waterproof and comes with a plastic pot and biodegradable toilet bags. The choice of materials is based on their watertight and airtight properties, and the ability to be easily cleaned. Even with these components, the kit is lightweight and weighs less than one kilogram.
You can easily mount it without a hassle. Wave it in the air and seal it by rolling up the openings. When the air is sealed, you can fold the inflated form into a U-shape and clip two ends together, forming a pot space in the center. For the final step, push the toilet bag inside the pot and attach it to four buttons on the surface of the seat.
You must be wondering where your poop goes? Well, the bag in which you dump your waste contains a powder invented by the US space agency NASA. It solidifies your poop, kills bacteria and odor. Then the bag can be disposed of at human waste collecting facilities without leaving behind any trace of your waste. Both the seat and the toilet are designed to be user-friendly and aim to enhance comfort while sitting and getting up.

According to Peng, AirPot inflatable toilet is the best solution for tackling the problem of human waste and provides the best toilet experience in the wilderness. He says “People will do the right thing when given a well-designed tool to improve a situation.” Peng hopes to manufacture the product and distribute it to outdoorsy enthusiasts. This is with the motive that everyone remains a step ahead when it comes to protecting nature.
