Growing up I saw a thousand dreams but none could come close to the ultimate dream of being a househusband, taking care of my wife and kids, and preparing food for the family. Well, life had some other plans and instead of being the next culinary expert, I took upon journalism. Nevertheless, if it is blood, sweat, and tears that typify my life outside of the house; it is dust, smoke, and grease that still represent my life inside the kitchen.
The kitchen is undoubtedly an integral section of any home. But, if there is one thing that really bothers me and stops me from becoming a culinary expert, is the smoke and the grease that is difficult to bear when preparing food. There are exhaust fans and range hoods you can install, but you can’t carry them around, for that one benefit, a portable exhaust is born.
French designer Maxime Augay has designed the Airhood, which is the world’s first portable range hood or exhaust fan (whatever you like to call it). It is a small and portable device that sucks all the steam, grease, and smoke from the air. Poised on a heavy metal base, the full body of the range hood comprises an air duct, oil filter, filter bracket, motor, fan, on/off switch, shell, handle, and diffuser.
All you need to do is set it up on a countertop next to a cooktop. But the question arises, how does it actually work? Well, the Airhood functions on dual filter technology. The charcoal filter and the oil filter are responsible for cleaning the air, while you cook.
The charcoal filter clears smoke and fumes out of the air, while the detachable oil filter grabs fat particles found in the steam and helps rid the space of odors. It also helps avoid the buildup of sticky film and grease odors that sticks to walls and curtains. Both filters are incorporated within the body of the Airhood.
