Keeping in line with its experience era, Airbnb Icons, the vacation rental platform is back with yet another astounding opportunity for pop-culture fans. But this time, you don’t get an accommodation offer, but a challenge. Airbnb is giving a once-in-a-lifetime chance for Gladiator training at the Colosseum as part of its Icons category.
The Colosseum in Rome has been the stage for epic battles and legendary gladiators for centuries. For the first time in nearly 2,000 years, the Colosseum is returning to its original purpose as a venue for performances.
Nodding to the recently released Gladiator II, the sequel to 2000 Gladiator, Lucius – a fellow gladiator – is offering the chance to visit the Colosseum at night, where you get to choose and don a historically accurate armor, and test your mettle against the others.
Lucius will open the gates to the Colosseum after sunset, leading the chosen few inside where you will get to see this majestic landmark glimmering in candlelight. You can explore the hypogeum, the underground chambers where gladiators prepared for the battles. Here, you get to wear historically accurate armor reflecting your gladiator type. You can choose from murmillo, thraex, provocator, retiarius, or contrarete.
You will also walk the torch-lit labyrinths deep in the Colosseum, where gladiators once proudly tread. Thereafter, you get to indulge in a sparring session with fellow gladiators, relishing the symphony of swords and shields.

As for the refreshments, the young warriors will be served grapes, pomegranates, almonds, and walnuts. At the end of the night, a summa rudis – a referee – will determine the winner. If you have what it takes, you may get to join the ranks of the victorious gladiators of the ages past.
