People are drifting away from humanity, but some people are kind-hearted to all, humans and animals alike. There is a genuineness, resonance, and passion in their deeds which makes their stories worth telling. One such story is of Barna, a homeowner in San Francisco who gave a stray cat named Domino his forever home by designing the most adorable tiny house in his backyard.
We have seen tiny houses as a popular choice for people trying to downsize, but never have we seen someone building a tiny house for stray cats. It started with Domino the cat showing up in Barna’s backyard, tired and malnourished. Seeing that cat in such a dire state, he felt like helping him.
With the thought of doing a good deed, he put out some food to gain Domino’s trust. He did not succeed right away, but eventually he did. Taking notice of the changing weather, he decided to put his woodworking skills to some use and built Domino a cozy, little house.
Domino’s house looks like a mini version of a traditional tiny house. Barna incorporated a heating pad with two cushions to keep the cat warm and added a light and a hidden camera. He also built an additional exit in case of emergence. The exterior is painted red and white to make it stand out.
He wasn’t sure if the cat would use it, but soon Domino snuggled in and slept peacefully. This wasn’t it, the homeowner soon realized that Domino wasn’t alone and had a best friend. Soon, two more cats showed up and Barna had to build another two-story tiny house while still keeping Domino’s original house.

Barna’s backyard turned into a perfect hangout spot for stray cats living in a makeshift cat community. This story ends with Domino having neighbors to hang out with and we thank Barna for being empathetic enough to help these little whiskers. Because of him none of the cats are sleeping on an empty stomach.
Barna tells The Dodo, “We have about four or five cats who will go in and sleep in the houses…One night one of the biggest storms of the year hit, I saw that two kittens actually took shelter in the house. That was one of the sweetest things ever.” We do love a good ol’ tale with a happy Disney-like ending, don’t we?
