Netherlands-based company Somnox has designed the world’s first robotic hug pillow that improves sleep by breathing regulation, sounds, and affection. It is an ultimate sleep aid device that simulates breathing, plays lullabies and other calming sounds to relax your body and mind. It reduces stress and anxiety, so that you can fall asleep faster, and wake up refreshed in the morning. As you sleep hugging it in your hands, it produces a sensation of breathing, so that you adjust your own breathing rate consequently in order to reduce stress and get a perfect sleep.
This robotic hug pillow has built-in sensors to determine whether you are awake or asleep. Later, it uses an algorithm to interpret the data and adjust the breathing simulations in response. While you sleep, it plays a variety of soothing sounds including heartbeats, lullabies, guided meditation music or you can upload your own music.
This cuddly hug pillow automatically adjusts the sound, and eventually gets turned off when you fall asleep. Its design team has collaborated with famous Dutch brand Royal Auping to add comfort to the final product. You can use the companion mobile app to adjust the settings according to your personal preferences, helping to get better sleep in the night.

Though we have featured various sleep enhancing products before, but creating artificial breathing simulations to get better sleep seems to be an innovative idea, and it might work as well because breathing patterns affect our sleep. If you would like to have your own Somnox soft sleep robot, you can currently pre-order it from Kickstarter for a price of €449 (US$530). It was also displayed at the Dutch Design Week 2017.
