Oreo cookies are loved by many young children, however, to appeal this sugary treat to teenagers Dimension Plus has come up with Oreo Vinyl. It is a musical iteration of Oreos in form of edible records that play music, just like vinyl records – but these are absolutely edible. This way the firm is even aiming to encourage teenagers’ passion for music.
As part of a campaign, the classic treat has been converted into a tiny, working record that plays different variations of the Oreo theme song when paired with a specialized record player that accompanies it. To achieve a record-like sound, the cookies are even engraved with specially formatted grooves that replace the classic branding. Moreover, local musicians were invited on-board to recreate the original Oreo theme music in their own individual styles.
The vinyl-like pattern is engraved on the cookies using a laser-engraving and cutting techniques. The Oreo Vinyl was recently awarded the Visual Communication Design Award in the annual Golden Pin Design Awards in Taiwan. This inventive campaign offers consumers a box of six cookies – each containing a different song, as well as the accompanied record player.
