This cool DIY project is a combination of doghouse and kids’ playhouse. It’s a custom large pallet doghouse that easily converts into a playhouse for kids with a few simple changes. Firstly, the wooden frame of the doghouse has been made using large wood planks. Even flooring is made out of wooden pallets, and you can even use any other material of your choice.
For this one, the floorboards were pre-sanded to give them a smooth finish. The door is also installed while framing it, otherwise, it would become too heavy. The door consists of Ondura and Tuftex panels to trace the shape of the corrugations onto a piece of 1×2-inches wood. Furthermore, a piece of clear polycarbonate has been sandwiched between the two pieces of wood, securing it in four places to prevent stress on the plastic.
On the front deck, old tree roots are used to form angled railings just outside the door. For finishing, a UV-protectant varnish has been used – it also ensures that no bugs have their way in. The last fun piece is a cute bone-shaped accessory on the scroll saw. It is attached to a scrap bit of chain with machine screws and more nylock nuts. It has been hung in place with two cup hooks installed on the front crosspiece.
The roof sits securely in place but can be removed without any hardware. The three vaulted windows and polycarbonate door let in a lot of light for free warmth in the winter season. To make this into a kid’s cabin, you need to enclose the whole thing, and just add an extension square in between the roof and the house. Yes, it’s that simple.
