From marble and hardwood flooring to laminate flooring, different types of flooring materials are used to furnish houses. But have you ever thought of tiling the floor with coins? Yes, a penny floor to be precise. Well, Rich Holtham, owner of the BS4 barbershop in Dudley, UK has decided to go for pennies instead of floor tiles to decorate his new shop.

In order to cut costs, he came on to laying the floor of his shop with 70,000 pennies. It took an entire crew of the shop about a week to glue all the pennies to the floor, and then gaps were grouted for a finished look.

Holtham said;

We wanted a new floor but the cost of getting it done was expensive and we wanted to do something a bit more unusual, so we looked at a few different ideas online.

Holtham got an estimate of £1,000 to floor his shop, but he was not satisfied, so he researched a lot for unusual flooring ideas, and finally opted for the penny floor. He had to take out £700 worth of pennies from the bank to realize this project. Using these 1p coins, the whole crew at the barbershop was able to create a shiny penny floor.

Last year, we also came across the DIY penny floor by Tonya Steck that boasts elegant diamond-shaped patterns. Unlike this DIY project, all the pennies are arranged in a simple pattern, but there is a BS4 logo on the floor for a unique touch. For sure, it is a herculean task to glue pennies one by one on the floor but he managed to complete the task. It may take time, but the result will be really amazing!
