In today’s world where so much is happening around us, at some point in time you would have thought to be cocooned, with no other company than yourself. Finally your imagination has been delivered by a designer named Jaya van den Berg, with her design Co COON. This cocoon-shaped structure offers you a place to relax and enjoy the peace and serenity inside a private space.
Mainframe of this private retreat is made up of stainable French white ash wood which is 10 mm thick and curved using steam bending technique. Top end of this hide-out features a round wooden window that provides it with natural light and an effective passage for exhaust gases. The grey color outer shell, evokes a sense of a strong protective enclosure, while a deep red color seating in the interior triggers a feeling of comfort.
Button acts as the fastener and the pocket on the entrance panel reminds us to keep our smartphones out of this cocoon. A laser engraved logo right on the top wooden circle keeps us aware about the brand that has offers this amazing private space.
Slot joints fastens and closes the top and bottom wooden rings. Entire wooden frame is knotted by Paracord black 100 % nylon material, which keeps together the different parts of this tiny place. Five ribs of the wooden structure are jointed to the base ring with half laps.
It is interesting to know that this project was a part of designer’s curriculum for obtaining a Bachelor and Honours degree in Industrial Design.
