The idea behind making TERRA Grass Chair
The idea for TERRA originated over two decades ago in 1999. In the following years, the chair design gained immense popularity and Studio Nucleo sold the chair all across the world between the years 2000 and 2005. However, designers Andrea Sanna and Piergiorgio Robino of Studio Nucleo realized that self-production was no longer sustainable, hence, manufacturing was abandoned for over a decade. A letter from a TERRA fan reignited the production in 2016.
According to the designers, a shift in design production is crucial toward sustainable practices amid the changing world. The grass chair helps inch toward that goal. The studio sought funds on Kickstarter and the campaign was successful.

TERRA grass armchair is not an end product, but an idea. The studio sells flatpack, laser-cut cardboard parts, which require assembly and inclusion of soil and grass seeds by the consumer.
You need to assemble the cardboard pieces into an ergonomic frame. Fill it with dirt, which is free and easily available. Sprinkle seeds over the soil and water them frequently. Over time, it will flourish and become a part of your garden landscape, while offering you a piece of nature to sit on.
