Sydney-based designer Max Harper has created Corker Lights, a series of pendant lights that are inspired by the iconic cork hats, stereotypical and mythical representation of the Australian ocker, in the United Kingdom. The handmade corker lights are made in Sydney from agglomerated cork – a renewable and hardy resource, to give it both functionality and durability.
According to Harper, he wanted to add some good-humored impression to the Australian cork hat while side-by-side highlighting the sustainability and innovation that can be achieved with cork.
The handheld corker lights are plugged-in with powder-coated steel wires that provide lights the freedom to adjust according to room requirements and also make it easy for the user to disassemble them. Available in various styles, the lights come in four variants i.e. skinny, rotund, straight and pivoted.
The slim pendant lights were recognized at the Melbourne Fringe Furniture Festival 2014; the lights won in the Sustainability and Waste-wise Award category.
The corker lights beautifully highlight the natural design and form of cork, making them eye-catching light pieces that are good enough to attract anyone’s attention.
