Stockholm-based Studio TOOJ is well-known for creating furniture and objects of functional art using innovative materials and processes. Last year, the studio made waves with the Contourage console table 3D-printed from sand, and now it has come up with the surreal Duk furniture collection made of wood and mycelium. These unique pieces make you question what you are looking at—is it a cloth casually draped in the corner, or a sculpture carved from stone or wood?

True to its name, Duk, which translates to ‘tablecloth’ in Swedish, these furniture pieces create a material illusion of being draped in cloth with hard, unmoving forms. The pieces are sculpted from wood and then covered with Reishi, a biomaterial grown from mycelium by MycoWorks. The company says the material is highly versatile and allows designers to control its strength, texture, and visual appeal.

Each piece showcases nature’s unique pattern. Grown entirely from mycelium, the material’s organic texture and delicate variations make it almost look like a tablecloth. This collection turns furniture into art, using a futuristic bio-based material.

The DUK furniture collection looks unreal with unusual shapes and textures that trick the eye. Studio TOOJ created a wall-mounted corner table as the first piece for the collection in December 2024, and now it has launched a side table and pedestal in the same style at this year’s Milan Design Week.
