The latest build from the German company Camper Schmiede will surprise you with its design and features. Named Marylin Onroad, it was the company’s exhibition vehicle at the 2024 Caravan Salon – constructed in six months. Designed for outdoor living, the Soul Floater lounger in the rear is one of the features that makes this camper van special. It allows two persons to lounge comfortably outdoors as if relaxing in a hammock.
This unique lounger attachment measures 240 x 140 cm (94 x 55 inches) and is capable of holding up to 200 kg (440 lbs), with the support of the rear pillars. The idea of having a built-in lounger is cool as it can allow occupants to make the most out of the outdoors with uninterrupted views. It is designed to lay back or sit upright and when you are done it can be rolled back easily. In need of more outdoor living space? Camper Schmiede has also added a rooftop terrace made from lightweight aluminum honeycomb to the camper van. It can be accessible via the glass roof hatch above the front dinette.
Built on a MAN TGE L3H3 measuring 6.80 meters long, the camper van has an empty weight of 3.4t, while its payload capacity is 1,100kg (approx. 2,425 lbs). Once inside, you can see the interior in the ’50s vibe that makes a great contrast with high-tech features and colorful appliances in the van.
The kitchen located just behind the driving section is equipped with Smeg appliances including a 130-liter refrigerator, faucet, and portafilter machine. There is an induction hob, stainless steel sink, integrated bamboo cutting board, and dinette with swivel seats and solid bamboo table to let the inhabitants cook and eat on the go.
This area is multi-functional and can even become a makeshift bathroom with a fixed rain showerhead on the ceiling. Just put the wooden shower tray or slide out the toilet and use 2-meter long roller blind to set up a private wet room or separate the living area from the rear area. There is a separate pull-down shade to protect the fridge and surrounding cabinets from shower water.
The rear of the van has been creatively utilized as it can become a cozy lounge with seating for four, a mobile office, or a child’s bed. It can even be used to store a motorcycle or a bicycle with a built-in airline rail system. The bed drops down from the ceiling while there is also a rooftop tent for two additional persons. Another highlight is the central locking system that locks all the cabinets automatically with the ignition.

The camper van is equipped with two 330Ah Victron lithium batteries, 3000W Victron inverter, and a 300W solar system for energy requirements. There is also a 2kw diesel heating Autoterm, 9-liter hot water boiler Tigerexped, 100-liter fresh water tank, and 85-liter waste water tank for comfort on the road.
The Marylin Onroad camper van is different in many ways but the interior design makes the biggest impact. The makers have skipped a permanent bathroom for a multi-functional interior space that does its job decently. If you want to buy, this one-of-a-kind exhibition camper van is listed for €269,000 (approx. $294,000) at Camper Schmiede with availability scheduled for May 2025. The Sun Floater lounger can be purchased separately for €1,490 (approx. $1,600).
