This cliffside home designed by Cameron Webster Architects embraces its surrounding natural beauty while employing modern architectural techniques. Named Rock Cove, it is a cantilevered structure located on a rocky promontory in Argyll, Scotland.

This streamlined building on the edge of a stark cliff is not for people who suffer from vertigo as the house creates a feeling of being suspended in the air. It is rather agreeable for those who want to enjoy the best of nature and do not mind the heights.

The architects have opted for a linear form to fit the dwelling into the tight space. The house measures just eight meters wide and creatively includes four bedrooms inside.

Half portion of the house is positioned on rocky terrain while half part is cantilevered on V-shaped metal supports. This way, the architects managed to maximize the views while minimizing the overall impact on the site. The stone retaining walls and wood cladding on the exterior help the house blend into the surrounding area.

Located on a tight narrow strip of decommissioned military land, this single-story house features a spectacular sea-facing living area and a garden facing the rear. The architects included large floor-to-ceiling glass walls in the living area to maximize views. Furthermore, a covered deck provides a viewing platform in front of the living area.

The interior has an open-plan layout with wood used throughout, including on the walls and ceiling. There is an elongated sunroof in the corridor that brings natural light to the living spaces.

The Rock Cove Project has won the prestigious Supreme Award at the Glasgow Institute of Architects (GIA) Awards 2024 for its thoughtful design that blends innovation with functionality.
