Creating water from atmospheric air is not a new concept but is getting quite popular as these appliances are now available for home use. You may remember the WaterCube which can generate 100 gallons of potable water daily from thin air or Kara Water who first created a floor-standing version in 2022. The same company surprised people at CES 2025 by utilizing the air-to-water technology in a coffee machine.
After years of research and development, many companies have successfully miniaturized the technology for home use and now we even have a countertop version. Check out Spout – a compact kitchen gadget that transforms humidity from the air into drinking water on your countertop. There are built-in multi-layer filters that absorb 99 percent of lead, PFAS, and micro-plastics, which ensures you get water purer than a tap.
To get the water out of the thin air, the device utilizes a desiccant wheel that first absorbs water from the air and then releases vapor through condensation. The condenser uses filtered air to cool and condense water while NASA-inspired technology filters re-mineralize water for purity and taste.
Thereafter, the water is stored in a UV-lit Spout pitcher that offers further sterilization. In the end, the user gets alkaline water that is generally considered good for health. The size of a coffee machine, this device can produce 2.5 gallons of water per day.

Spout says, its water-generating machine is 50 percent less expensive than water delivery and can help a family of four save 8,760 plastic bottles a year. The device uses 380-600 watts of power and works in any climate with at least 20 percent humidity. It will automatically turn off once the water tank gets full.
The Spout Monolith model includes a countertop atmospheric water generator and a plastic pitcher. It can be pre-ordered for $799 from the official website.
