Clearly, that assumption is wrong, especially with the release of Mammoth Overland’s latest creation, ‘Wooly’ aka WLY, a fully aluminum off-road camper trailer designed to withstand the cold of winter.
The off-road camping trailer makes winter camping more accessible and comfortable, thanks to its rugged design, oversized heater, tons of insulation, and wallpapers made of wool. So, if you’re an outdoor enthusiast who loves winter sports like skiing and snowboarding, all you need is the Wooly in your garage and adrenaline in your veins, and camping in winter could be a whole lot more fun than in spring or summer.
This is possible courtesy of Wooly’s ultimate insulation and heating system that will keep you warm even when the temperature drops to -20 Fahrenheit. The off-road camper trailer is equipped with a Truma VarioHeat 11,500-BTU/hour heater. This powerful unit is capable of heating a space as large as 600 square feet, enough to keep you warm in the coldest conditions.
But it’s not only the heater that deserves credit. The trailer boasts an insulation rating of R25 for the flooring, while the walls and ceiling boast an R12 rating. For context, most trailers typically range from R0 to R5 in insulation. But Mammoth Overland pushed the limit with its high-point rating.
Another feature that truly radiates warmth and comfort is Wooly’s wool-covered walls. Styled in a classic Buffalo plaid, the wool acts as an exceptional insulator, even when wet. Coupled with the standard Domestic RTX 2000 air conditioner, the Wooly off-road trailer provides comfort year-round, whether you’re chasing snow or surfing the summer waves.
Since I have mentioned cold and snow, it’s pretty evident that the trailer is meant to operate at high altitudes. Mammoth Overland claims, “Wooly can be used up to 8,694 feet above sea level, making it perfect for mountain adventures.” To tackle high-altitude terrains and snowpacks, the trailer comes equipped with bronze Method Race Wheels MR318 alloy rims wrapped in Toyo Open Country A/T III tires with a 3PMS snow rating, ensuring excellent traction even in deep snow. “If you ever get stuck, don’t worry — the WLY has nine recovery points (five more than the standard HV model), each rated to handle up to 20,000 pounds. This gives you the confidence to tackle even the toughest winter trails,” mentions the company.
Beyond these features, the trailer has a 21-gallon water tank (plumbing lines are heated, ensuring water stays liquid even when temperatures drop as low as 20°F below zero). Another standout feature of the trailer is its multiple power sources that ensure the camper never runs out of juice while off the grid. The trailer draws power from four sources, shore power, vehicle towing power, two onboard 100-watt solar panels, and a WEN 4,000-Watt generator. Combined, these can charge a Renogy 800-Amp-hour lithium battery pack, keeping everything running smoothly whether you’re cooking, heating, or using your devices.
Moving on to other amenities, the Wooly camper trailer’s kitchen is propped outdoors as the ELE and Tall Boy. But unlike other models, the Wooly features a unique annex that deploys over the rear hatch, helping campers stay sheltered during the storm. Additionally, the trailer comes with a 23ZERO Bushman awning room, perfect for changing out of snow gear before entering the warmth of the trailer.
