I have not met a person in my life who doesn’t like camping. For children it’s an escape from school routine; for adults it’s a getaway from their corporate life; and for the elders it’s this whole reconnecting with nature thing. Camping after all seems fun activity unless you have got a tent to pitch, heavy mattresses to carry, and rely on the mercy of Mother Nature that can play a spoilsport. Considering, that camping can have more perils than perks, it is important to be prepared, and the first step toward preparation is investing in a tent that’s durable, easy to set up, and can withstand adverse weather conditions. Enter AirNEST, the world’s first rapid-inflatable camping shelter with a built-in mattress.
Created by Canadian startup Rise Outdoor, the AirNEST system combines an inflatable tent with a wall-to-wall air mattress for ultimate comfort and convenience. This all-in-one setup includes an inflatable tent, a mattress that spans the entire floor, and an electric pump for easy inflation. “We’ve unified both tent and mattress into one innovative unit that pitches with the push of a button. It’s arguably the easiest, fastest, most comfortable, and versatile tent system you’ve ever seen,” states the makers.
The core of the AirNEST system is the tent, which features an ‘inflatable ribcage frame’ for structural support. The setup is anchored securely to the ground with 14 titanium pegs and 10 Dyneema guy lines. The tent is made with a durable 50D, 3000HH waterproof polyester canopy, and a sturdy 210D Dacron/420D Oxford nylon base, offering resilience against weather elements. In addition to the durable body, the tent also features large mesh-covered front and rear doors for ventilation, a zip-on vestibule for storing wet gear or boots, and three wall-mounted pockets for smaller items like phones, flashlights, or books.
To ensure you don’t fall sick during strong winds and storms and have a nice resting place during the night, the tent features a queen-sized air mattress that fits perfectly within the tent’s 42.5-square-foot interior, zipping into place along the tent’s walls. Made from puncture-resistant 420D Oxford ripstop nylon, the mattress has an R-value of 4.0 and is roomy enough for up to three adults.
The Airbank electric pump, which is the third component of the AirNEST system inflates the tent and mattress in just two minutes each. The pump can also be used to inflate other items like rafts or charge electronic devices, thanks to its 12V/15,600mAh lithium-ion battery. Speaking of rafts, the company claims that the mattress is buoyant enough to use on a lake, turning the whole tent and mattress into a floating retreat for water adventures. However, I would recommend you go through the instructional manual thoroughly before attempting such a crazy thing.

The entire AirNEST system, including the tent, mattress, and carrying backpack, weighs 22.88 lbs with the Airbank pump adding another 2.28 lbs, hence being a lot lighter than traditional camping gear. Currently available for pre-order on Kickstarter, a pledge of CA$1,099 (around US$787) will secure a complete system for you.
