Italian furniture brand Porro has launched the Iro bed, designed by Enrico Fratesi and Stine Gam, the Italian-Danish designer duo behind the architecture firm GamFratesi. The Iro bed features two large headboard cushions upholstered in eco-leather and fabric and has a solid ash wood frame. The ash wood is brushed and varnished with a glossy open pore to enhance its detail. The minimalistic silhouette evokes the scenery of wooden houses in the Alps while celebrating Japanese joinery.
The texture of the solid frame is enhanced by tinted ash, available in the colors verde inglese (green), azuki (similar to terracotta), bruno (brown) and black, and by the latte ash finish. Porro has worked with the techniques of coloring the beds.
The padded cushion headboard with removable covers is a unique addition. The internal multilayer structure is covered with polyurethane foam with cotton and muslin on the top, creating a subtle balance between the heavy wood frame and soft cushions.
The designers say, “This year we designed a bed, which is an extremely important piece because it’s the center of the bedroom area. And the challenge was how we wanted to combine the Porro DNA into this design. I think the piece is extremely light, but at the same time it has a lot of character because the dimension of the wood is still very present. Then we have the headboard element, which is very soft and very comfortable. So I think we’ve a nice balance between the quite heavy wood frame and then the very soft cushions.”
The Iro bed is designed to be the focal point in the room with its subtle sophistication. This minimalistic bed is available in queen-size and king-size.
