Designart Tokyo is one of Japan’s largest design and art festivals, covering various genres such as design, art, interior design, and fashion. In this festival, LIXIL Corporation debuted Bathtope, a portable fabric bathtub that you can set up anywhere to enjoy a soak. The Bathtope fabric tub is origami-inspired as the material is cut from a single sheet of fabric and then folded to create a vessel-like structure.
This removable fabric bathtub lets you enjoy the advantages of it in small apartments without a bathtub. It also works great for renters who are not allowed to have a fixed tub. Bathtope can be filled with hot and cold water for a rejuvenating soak.
After use, the users can fold and hang anywhere for drying. The fabric adapts to the size and form of the different spaces. It can be hung in the bathroom by attaching the hooks to the walls, or outdoors similar to how a hammock is hung.
This fabric is spacious enough that you can sit inside it with cross legs. The single-sheet fabric design reduces the risks of leakage. LIXIL Corporation will launch the Bathtope fabric bathtub on 26th November 2024, which also coincides with the 100th anniversary of its plumbing and tile business.

The idea of using the Bathtope tub in the bathroom got inspiration from the ‘elegance of kimono’ and the process of making ‘origami’ which was further executed by the LIXIL Corporation. The use of multiple fabrics would wear it out or tear the Bathtope easily.
The fabric features a nozzle at its bottom which helps in emptying the water. The Bathtope portable fabric bathtub is available in various colors such as white, chestnut, beige, pale blue, and black which add aesthetic to any bathroom.
