Celebrating the different faces and phases of design, the Heliz coffee table is a symbolic piece of furniture. Designed by Moroccan designer and architect Reda Bouamrani, the table combines three distinctive elements, each one is an unapologetic representation of an era, a technique, and a material important not just to the history of design but to its future as well. Notably, the table will be exhibited at the Maison&Objet fair from 5th to 9th September 2024.
The Heliz coffee table is not just a furniture but an evolution of design. It goes through the three different stages of craftsmanship, which follow the artisanal stage, the industrial stage, and the modern stage. In the artisanal stage, the top and the legs are handcrafted from wood paying tribute to the traditional techniques of furniture making. With a meticulous work of form and pattern, the table evokes a sense of nostalgia, imbued with the passion and hard work of the artisans.
Made of glass and stainless steel, the second element is the industrial stage of the design symbolizing the Industrial Revolution. This element is tough and durable thanks to the stainless steel base while the mirror top adds a touch of elegance.
The third element including marble and steel represents the modern era of design. It has a top made of glazed marble and a sturdy base made of stainless steel, showcasing the lightness of form and the nobility of materials. This element adds to the table’s functionality and sophistication.
A helix is formed when the three elements are combined, a shape that represents a perpetual motion. The furniture hides a deep symbolism behind its intricate composition. It reminds the users about the ever-changing and evolving quality of design through different eras. While the form may change, the essence lingers.
