New York-based Thecatal has launched its new Wind Anchor tent which is gaining popularity amongst camping enthusiasts. Ideal for solo travelers, this backpacking tent has an intuitive and ingenious design. The ultra-lightweight tent promises quick setup and stability in all kinds of terrains. It has been designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, especially high-intensity winds thus living up to its name. If required, it can also be used in hammock mode as well.
For many years, camping tents have used traditional designs such as A-frame, cross-pole, tunnel, dome, and pyramid. But the Wind Anchor tent breaks this norm with a ground-breaking structure that has an aerodynamic semi-conical shape. This kind of form reduces wind resistance by optimizing the airflow around the tent. The company claims that the tent can endure winds up to Beaufort scale level 12 (which describes a hurricane) owing to its unique design.
A simple design also means that it is very easy to put up the tent on the camping ground. To set up, you need to lay out the tent and then stake it to the ground, insert the tent poles, and cover it with an add-on tarp, if needed. While the makers say that it takes 60 seconds to complete the installation we believe it might take few more depending on your level of expertise. You can also reposition it without any hassle.
The Wind Anchor tent has been made using ultra-thin nylon reinforced with silicone oil for ultimate durability. It features a superior water resistance rating exceeding 5000mm, guaranteeing a dry interior even in rainy conditions. The high-end fabric is complemented by a comprehensive ventilation system with six vents designed around the tent body. The single-wall design also has two large mesh doors for added airflow.
The base of the tent provides a diamond-shaped floor for comfortable use and sleeping. It has integrated storage pockets to keep your belongings safe and handy. There is a footlocker at one side to keep shoes dry while keeping the main living area clear of any mud or dirt. Moreover, once inside, you need not worry about any insects or mosquitoes.

To use Wind Anchor tent in hammock mode, you can use it with any standard hammock. It helps campers create a suspended shelter that doesn’t require an additional tent floor. The tension-lock system provides stability and balance, making it a reliable shelter with profound hammock capabilities.
Thecatal offers two types of tents: Wind Anchor, weighing 850g and Wind Anchor Pro that only weighs 650g. Interested buyers can opt for add-ons like shelter tarp, tent footprint, floor mat, double nylon fabric hammock, moisture-proof air mattress, and inflatable mattress. The Wind Anchor tent has achieved thrice its pledged goal on Kickstarter and is offered at a super early bird price of $200. The deliveries are likely to start in October 2024.
