A father and son duo of Jaggu and Dhakshith from Bengaluru converted a 15-year-old Maruti Alto into a budget-friendly home on wheels. They have modified it into a multipurpose caravan that can be used as an emergency vehicle, a sleeping coach, and a camping car for two with a kitchen at the back.
The father even shared his vision in a YouTube video regarding the conversion of this five-seater Maruti Alto caravan into a versatile home on wheels and the result is nothing short of spectacular. The half portion of the hatchback converts into a bed for one. Jaggu built this set-up purposely for long journeys where the passenger can rest and relax. For the entertainment, there is a TV that the resting passenger can watch while the other one drives. It also transforms into an emergency car, so when someone’s sick they can lay down with ease on the way to the hospital.
The duo modified the entire back cabin into a double-bed camping car by removing the seats and covering the entire space with wooden platforms to turn it into a relaxing sleeping space. They also added curtains to make the space feel livelier and more private.
There is a provision for outdoor cooking with a kitchen cabinet at the rear of the car. Built to seamlessly fit into a compact space, it integrates a foldable countertop that provides an adequate space for prepping meals. Besides, the entire kitchen offers sufficient space to carry essential kitchen items, even a foldable chair is adjusted in the cabinetry.

To keep the luggage safe while travelling, the caravan is integrated with a rooftop box. It is fastened with hydraulics and is lockable to keep the belongings secure.
Jaggu with his son Dhakshith modified the car at home using wood and hydraulic struts. Even the curtains are made by Jaggu himself. The cost of the Maruti Alto Caravan conversion is not mentioned, but it is a DIY project and everything is done at home, so the expenses might have been low.
