I have been watching movies and reading books about magical creatures since childhood, with an ever-growing longing for my wonderland where nothing but magic happens. But I am not alone in this; many of us grew up listening to fairytales from our grandmothers, the lore of witches and beasts, and have dreamt of living in a magical realm. A fire further fueled by modern fantasy novels. While we may not get to live in those worlds of fantasy, we can experience something closer to being a mage or a wizard living in a cottage amidst the woods. The Briar Vale Cottage in Ohio is an Airbnb rental that offers a chance to experience a fairytale stay for us dreamers.
I have seen numerous Airbnb properties, but still haven’t come across one as whimsical as the Briar Vale cottage. Built for couples or a family of four, this two-level house is a portal to another world. Everything is detailed and not a single thing is missing; from a shingle roof and copper gutters to the cobblestone foundation, the beauty of the exterior is enchanting. Classic windows, a front wooden arched door, and L-shaped stairs leading inside make the exterior ever so exquisite.
If you tell me that someone lives here who brews magic potions and drinks tea with cats, I would believe it. The interior is exceptional and jaw-dropping. It flaunts a split-level design featuring two bedrooms, a large living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom. The air-conditioned living room on the main level has a sofa and a table where you can gather around with your loved ones for an amusing time. I can hear the crackling sound of wood burning in the fireplace under mighty ceilings with wooden beams and the flickering light of low-hanging chandeliers. You can cuddle next to the cozy window seat with a book and a coffee, while the wind whistles outside.
Other medieval décor includes a console table facing the sofa, fake Tudor beams on the wall, large old-styled windows, lamps, some old pictures and paintings on the wall, and an arch-shaped wardrobe in one corner. From the main floor, you either go up to the bedroom or walk down to the kitchen. The bedroom is beautiful and gives the feeling of being in a castle. The room has no doors for privacy, which might be a bit problematic for some, but its dreamy aura will compensate for it.
Everything is high-quality in this room, from a snuggly queen-size bed to an open closet, to the charming nightstands, bedside tables, and windows that filter the light in. The blue ceiling is dotted with golden stars that look like they are glowing and the star-shaped lights hang low.
The bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with so much character. From the flowery wallpaper to a vanity sink with gold fixtures, cobblestone flooring, and a tiled shower, every detail in the bathroom gives an old-world charm.
You walk down the stairs into a lovely kitchen where everything is fuzzy and warm. I am not much of a cook, but the kitchen of the Briar Vale cottage is astounding and off-beat. It shines with an L-shaped countertop with so much prep space, a standout sink in the middle with wood detail, flanked by two green cabinets above, and green under-counter cabinets with gold fixtures to elevate its beauty.

The black appliances like a cooktop, a microwave, a refrigerator, a chimney, and a coffee maker cleverly contrast other details in the kitchen. There are some walnut shelves and plenty of storage to store your potions and herbs, or spices. Settle down with your family and enjoy a heartwarming meal at the antique wooden dining space with a built-in booth area that fits four people comfortably.
You take the stairs from the kitchen and reach the ground-level basement room, specially built for kids enclosed by a door. My inner child feels so happy to see this lovely nook with bunk beds, whimsical wallpaper, and snug lights on each bed. There is a washer-dryer unit as well, fitted nicely at the back of the room.
The Dutch-door in the living room leads you out into your outdoor deck space at the back of the house. A good spot to hang out with your family and breathe in some fresh air of woodland. If you are tired of sitting, then you can walk down the path to an open space (designed to give off a dilapidated ruin vibe) with a hot tub, fireplace, grill, and outdoor dining area.
The Briar Vale cottage is a perfect realm for books and movie lovers, even for children there is plenty to do here from outdoors to indoors. Great place to live out your fairytale, forge your story, and sing your lore amidst the magical woodland. You can rent this place on Airbnb for $265 per night.
