Dogs love being outdoors with plenty of room to run around and roll in the mud. They love exhilarating activities, including goofing in the park, being an enthusiastic car passenger with heads popping out of the window, accompanying hoo-mans on a bicycle or motorbike, or skateboarding like a pro. Inspired by dogs’ love for the outdoors, speed, and travel, the amazing Dash-Hound kinetic kennel by Birds Portchmouth Russum Architects Ltd was designed.
Archie, a dappled miniature dachshund born in Kent, is a passionate traveler and an important part of this design as he became the first-ever dog to test the moving kennel. Shortlisted for this year’s Barkitecture competition, it is quite functional and engaging for the dog and the owner. The concept design recreates the nurturing environment when dachshund babies suckle beneath their mothers. The design successfully creates a safe sanctuary for the dog while enhancing the relationship with its owner.
The kennel “has a sculpted fibre glass chassis overclad with high quality Italian tan leather, cross stitched at the seams.” The hind legs of the dog-shaped kennel are pinned into position by the tail, ensuring your dog’s safety. The patch-shaped holes on the flank provide a clear visual connection between the pet parent and the dog inside.
To ensure the right balance and mobility, the structure is mounted and fixed on a skateboard making the Dash-Hound a highly desirable and flexible pet accessory. The Dash-Hound can be crafted in materials like plywood, polypropylene, and leather suited for this year’s Barkitecture festival.

The durable and portable structure makes it easy to carry to the workplace or on outdoor ventures. Even with a child astride the kennel and your four-legged best friend on board, you can easily paddle it with the help of a wooden tail.
With the Dash-Hound kinetic kennel, your furry friend gets his own relaxing and much-deserved space, with privacy and enjoyment, and you have the opportunity to stay close and forge a deep bond with your pooch. Currently up for auction on Bonhams Cars, this kinetic kennel serves the purpose of providing a safe space for your dog most effectively.
