The design draws inspiration from the making of Kimonos, the Japanese ancestral clothing. Through the Origata, Tamura keeps alive the culture of Kimono making, which is a tradition running in her family.
The art of making Kimono involves a process of cutting and sewing a piece of flat and rectangular fabric in a straight line without causing a mess or wasting the fabric. Tamura mirrored the method in the Origata bench, where a sheet of aluminum is precisely cut and fastened together with screws for a more unified and geometrical structure.
It has a monolithic appearance, reflective and symbolic in its stance. A beautiful piece of furniture that marries the Japanese tradition of Kimono making with contemporary design.
The Origata bench shares a minimal and thoughtful design with an aesthetic quality. The pop of red color adds a character to it and makes it a singular piece of furniture.
