Vela Sofa, designed by Daniele Bortotto and Giorgia Zanellato, of Zanellato/Bortotto product design studio, is made with an approach of representing a tale that has been left in the cold sea. Both the name and design of the sofa strongly commit to the same.
Designed for Saba Italia, an Italian furniture design firm, Vela takes its name from an Italian word for ‘sail.’ The sofa shapes up close enough to mimic the mainsail and jib of a sailboat. Owing to its design, the Vela Sofa, launched at the Salone del Mobile 2023, is now the protagonist in Saba’s New Emotional Campaign launch.
It spells the designer’s philosophy that incorporates functionality with an element of fun. The design process and production establish a connection between fine craftsmanship and industry through delicate construction. The entire sofa design looks like a single piece stitched together with perfection and detail where bulky, broad back and seat engulf the sitter in a comfortable position.
Upholstered in fine fabric, the sofa is designed to meet comfort and style while it rests on unseen four black feet. The simple and linear design finds complexity in the detail provided by the diagonal stitching pattern on the back and armrests: A subtle yet noticeable detail that is inspired by the sails.

Besides, the Vela Sofa is built from plywood with round, soft curved corners. The 3-seater low sofa is filled with polyurethane foam under a removable flush fabric cover. Exhibiting a precious silhouette that calls for attention, the sofa is now available through Saba Italia. You can visit the website to configure a Vela Sofa for yourself.
