We see a lot of chair designs popping up in the market now and then. Some are made in the traditional style with only functionality in mind while others are born out of imagination, design excellence, and craftsmanship. Thonet 118 FV chair captures the interest of furniture design lovers at first glance by combining the two aspects in one impressive piece.
Designed by product designer Sebastian Herkner for furniture brand Thonet, the Thonet 118 FV chair has a minimalistic design. It is a wooden armchair with a mix of traditional carpentry and modern concepts. The legs of the chair are homogeneous and sleek. The hind legs rise to form the comfortable backrest while the front legs elevate to support armrests.
It has a large accommodating seat with a curved backrest. The chair is essentially designed to serve as dining furniture. It has an armrest height of 66 cm, a seat height of 46 cm, and weighs 5.1 kg.
Famous German-Austrian cabinet maker and founder of Thonet, Michael Thonet popularized the idea of simplifying a chair to the fewest components feasible in the middle of the 1800s. This idea is carried out and enhanced by the Thonet 118 FV chair, which pays homage to the company’s history.

Sebastian Herkner incorporated intricate features that further define the design by making it less prominent. The handcrafted seat is covered in cane work and the bentwood seat frame creates a subtle yet impressive structure.
The Thonet 118 FV chair is available in five color options: glazed white, stained olive green, stained black, stained walnut, and brightened and stained. These chairs will make a great addition to any dining space be it at home or a restaurant.
