If you are a fan of optical illusions then you are going to love this piece. The French studio by the name of Atelier YokYok has created what they named Le Banc Anamorphique or The Anamorphic Bench. They have shared pictures of this bench in public space in their social media post on Instagram, and it impresses with the resulting optical illusion. This creative furniture piece has been installed in the French city of Malicorne-sur-Sarthe, and is rightfully gathering great interest.
If you look at the Anamorphic Bench from one of the sides, it looks like a simple chair but that is the trick. The designers have woven the geometry of the bench in such a way that it hides the other legs. Le Banc Anamorphique is a fun furniture piece and a marvel of design. By sitting and viewing from the right angle the users can click interesting pictures of themselves and share them on social media. This is in fact the actual idea behind this public space urban furniture.

The seats of this bench have been made using Malicorne concrete which is a low-carbon concrete. The woodworking and concrete pouring was done at city workshops in September 2023. Interestingly, the Art Faience Workshop of Malicorne donated 35 kilos of cooking ware, broken plates and other rejected objects for making of the Anamorphic Bench. This means this is not only a beautiful optical illusion design but also a sustainable and recycled art object.
The creators have shared a thank you note addressing the city inhabitants for their curiosity about the Anamorphic Bench. Have you ever seen a furniture piece like this one in public spaces in your city? If yes, then we would love to know about them!
