I love tiny houses and it is my pleasure to introduce you to new micro-dwelling models and their makers every once in a while. Today’s treat is a single-level tiny house offering the ultimate layout for long-term living for a small family. The Whale Tiny House is a light-filled, flexible dwelling that boasts high ceilings, French doors, and cozy interiors.

Designed by New Zealand-based Raglan Tiny Homes, the Whale tiny house has a tell-tale black exterior popular amid builders from the Down Under. Big French doors open into an expansive, open-floor living room. The living room has U-shaped seating with storage underneath, which can convert into a spare double bed for additional sleeping space. A wood-fired fireplace is installed next to the living room to keep the space cozy and warm.

Next is a fully equipped kitchen. It has a kitchen island, solid wood benchtop, sink, electric cooktop, oven, range hood, refrigerator, and a galore of under-counter and overhead cabinets to store cooking essentials. There is plenty of space in front of the kitchen to place a dining table for six to eight people.

If you are using the Whale tiny house as a park model, you may consider having a deck built to extend the living space. It will also allow you to entertain guests in an al-fresco setting, while the giant French doors offer ease of mobility.

The bathroom of the compact house is down the hall from the kitchen. It has a shower, a vanity sink, and a composting toilet. The bedroom is past the bathroom and has another pair of French doors, providing direct access to the cozy space. It is rife with storage solutions and fits a king-size bed with storage underneath.

Priced at NZ $192,000; the 31-foot-long Whale tiny house can be availed with a covered deck and off-grid solar system. It is a perfect micro-dwelling for a small family, whether you want a mobile house or a stationary one.
