Remember Ring, the Amazon-backed smart home company that launched the Door View Cam at CES 2019? Unfortunately, the company gathered headlines for all the wrong reasons. Despite delivering a doorbell camera that easily fits into any existing slot of any door and does not require any additional cabling and installation, the company was under the radar for an apparent data breach as reported by TechCrunch in 2022.
However, the reports of Ring selling users’ data came much later to the public eye and by then the company had already discontinued the product citing the reason that it failed to catch on. Two years later, Ring is again betting on the peephole cam which comes at a much cheaper price than before. The same model is now being sold at $129, which earlier costed $199.
Best suited for urban apartments and rentals, the ‘Door View Cam’ integrates directly into your door’s peephole. The door cam featuring knock and motion detection is capable of recording at 1080p and even features night vision to ensure nobody scampers from its tight vision.

Additional features include a speaker for two-way communication. We are not familiar if there has been an upgrade made to the older model, other than the base price. On a little downside, Ring’s website is currently down. Nevertheless, the model is being exhibited at CES 2023 and can be availed on their official website.
