It has been a busy month for design aficionados and people in the media reporting about industrial design, courtesy of the Salone del Mobile 2022. Like all good things must come to an end, it’s finally time to bid farewell to Milan and move forward in preparation for the events in the second half of the year. Caravan Salon would surely be one of the events that we will have a keen eye on, but before that, a German startup called Roof Space has introduced a rooftop tent for cars which can be set up in less than 60 seconds, and I am already sold.
Dubbed Roof Space One it combines the advantages of a folding tent and a hard-shell tent in one. The rooftop tent comes packed in an aluminum case and takes only a minute to unfold and set up. Suitable for a couple or a small family, the tent can be mounted on the roof of almost any car.
That’s not it, the car tent offers panoramic views from its cabana-style structure. The tent offers a 270-degree view of the surroundings in the Panorama Mode. The front fabric section can be unzipped from the tent to allow nature lovers and photographers to peek at the whimsical views from well within.
Made from sustainable materials creating least possible CO2 emissions, the tent is designed to be recycled at the end of life. The company notes that almost 90 percent of the tent can be recycled.
Roof Space also mentions that the Hydro Reduxa aluminum used in the tent produces very little CO2 emissions compared to conventional aluminum. Other than that, various German and French quality fabrics are put to use to reduce the impact of harmful chemicals on the environment.

With a floor area of 53 x 81-inches, the car tent can allow occupants to stargaze, thanks to a skylight and windows on all four sides. I am super excited about this rooftop tent for a car, which can now be pre-ordered for €3.500 (approx. $3,700).
