Becky and Billy, parents of two kids have founded DOORWING with the mission to prevent mishaps with children and pets at home. They have come up with an easy-to-install and adjustable door lock that also functions as a finger guard. This creative device helps in preventing accidental finger injuries by locking the door with a small gap.
DOORWING installs without any tools – you just need to turn the knob and mount the device onto the edge of a door. It makes no harm to the door’s finish and can be used in interior doors to keep kids and pets away from particular rooms or areas.
DOORWING adjusts to doors between 1.2-1.8 inches thick and to door frames between 5.4-8.5 inches thick as well as works effectively with double doors. The lock should be attached at an appropriate height so that only the older siblings/parents can have access to it.
The door lock is equipped with a bumper that prevents doors from fully closing to ensure hand safety. The size of the door opening is adjustable, so small pets like cats can be allowed through it while bigger dogs are locked up outside.

This child and pet-proof door lock can also be used only as a finger pinch guard simply by folding the hook or just folding it against the door. It is designed to be unlocked from either side of the door to fully prevent accidental lock-ins.
If you have children at home, then this door lock can be very helpful to prevent door injuries with children and pets, even in your absence. It is currently being crowd-funded on Kickstarter so those wishing to get one can back the campaign for a minimum of CAD $26 (about $20). Shipping is expected to begin in September 2021.
