Blueair, the makers of award-winning air purifiers, is working on additional protection against the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. It has recently confirmed a major breakthrough air purifier that has been tested to remove the airborne virus. Blueair’s HealthProtect 7400 air purifier has been tested to remove 99.99-percent of live airborne SARS-CoV-2 virus (the Coronavirus disease) in a closed environment.
MRIGlobal, an independent non-profit research organization conducted the test on live aerosolized SARS-CoV-2 virus in a controlled biosafety level III lab. For the test, a Blueair HealthProtect 7410i air purifier was placed inside a Class III biological safety cabinet, measuring 13 ft³. The size of the testing area was limited by safety protocols for the volume of aerosolized virus particles allowed.
Three tests were conducted inside the bio-safety cabinet, without the air purifier, to understand how much of the virus remains in the air without an air purifier. After 5 minutes, a sample was taken to measure the concentration of coronavirus particles in the air. Three tests without the purifier became the baseline measurement.
The same process was repeated three times, this time with the HealthProtect 7410i air purifier turned ON. Like the three baseline tests, air samples were taken after 5 minutes to measure the concentration of aerosolized coronavirus particles. When compared with the baseline measurement, the results showed 99.99-percent of the live aerosolized SARS-CoV-2 virus was removed from the air in the test chamber.
In addition to being able to remarkably remove airborne coronavirus, Blueair’s HealthProtect air purifier features HEPASilent Ultra and GermShield technologies to better protect against bacteria and other viruses. The air purifier can be voice-controlled and also operated remotely courtesy of an app. It has an adaptable display and integrates an RFID chip for monitoring filter status.
