Updated 30 July, 2021: After a successful crowd-funding campaign on Kickstarter, the POTR, self-watering pots are now back. You can buy them from the official website. There are three sizes and colors to choose from, making them even more suitable for modern interiors. The price starts from £14 (about $20) for the smallest 10cm model.
UK-based product designers Andrew Flynn and Martin Keane have created POTR, flat-pack pot that can water plants in your absence. Made from 100 percent recycled materials, these self-watering planters are ideal for eco-conscious folks out there.
The flat-pack design of this self-watering pot is inspired by origami, the Japanese art of paper folding. Since the pots can fold down flat, they can be shipped out to you by mail in an envelope.
Made from recycled polypropylene, the pot functions like a cover for existing ceramic pots at home, converting them into self-watering planters and making them completely durable.
Assembling the plant pots is super easy – just tighten the quick draw cotton cord, attached to the mouth of the POTR, to transform it into a beautiful multi-faceted pot capable of holding water in its base.
The two ends of the cord are looped under the POTR on the inside and then inserted into the soil of the ceramic/clay planter within so that it can suck up water from the base when the plant is thirsty. The cotton cord works as a wick in an oil lamp to suck up water.
The POTR is ideal for those who aren’t able to water their planters on a regular basis. With a semi-transparent finish, it is easy to see when it is time to refill the pot with water.

POTR pot is available in two sizes to fit different sized planters, there are color choices for cotton cord as well. If you wish to own one, pledge its Kickstarter campaign for about £8 ($10) to get a smaller pot and £10 ($12) to get the larger one delivered in November 2019.
