A pendant lamp made out of burnt bough? Yes, the idea sounds weird but Jesse Sanderson of Wdstck has made it look elegant and beautiful. He has created Burning Ego pendant lamp using a burnt bough of oak wood.
The charred wood hanging lamp illustrates the famous Japanese traditional wood preserving technique in which soft upper crust of a tree branch is burnt to bring out the inner muscular form of wood for longevity and durability. The idea sprouted from Jesse’s perception to give some innovative and functional twist to discarded offshoots and other parts of a tree.
Jesse explained;
The Burning Ego serves as an ode to the often neglected essence of the bough and its relationship with light and life.
Created in collaboration with the landscape architect Wim Verzantvoort, this burnt tree branch pendant lamp is outfitted with a series of dimmable LED lights throughout and is hung using thin wires that make it appear floating in midair. It offers a soft ambiance perfect to create a warm atmosphere.

The Burning Ego ceiling lamp includes an onboard switch to switch on/off light. Measuring about 250 cm long, its height can be adjusted according to space requirements.
Abstract texture and unique patterns on each burnt tree branch are what make every lamp unique. At a whopping €3,799 ($4,440), it is not just another lighting equipment but an instant attention-grabbing work of art.
