Of all the bus conversions we have seen, this one is the most whimsical, thoughtful, and bright home on wheels. Nick and Allison, a couple, have done a tremendous job converting a 40ft skoolie into a full-time home for themselves and their beloved pets. Dubbed Ophelia Skoolie, the bus has an interior finished with numerous elements like tiles, wood, and plants that we see throughout. They have been working on making the bus their home for two years for $45,000. Considering the immaculate work, the bus conversion is worth it.
The couple has ensured that their home doesn’t lack anything essential. The exterior is painted in a soothing color that distinctly complements the indoors. The ordinary entry door has been changed into an RV door for a good locking system and thermal efficiency.
Under the bus, they have fitted the propane and 55 gallons of grey water, whereas the 55 gallons of fresh water tank is installed inside the bus. To make the exterior more functional, they have added a spigot to drain the tank, it serves other features as well like filling up the buckets and bowls. The storage at the back of the bus is quite useful, and 1200 watts of solar panels on the roof make it energy-efficient.
The minute you walk inside, it feels like an actual home. It is refreshing to see this kind of layout in a bus conversion where everything is well planned, every nook is well-occupied and nature-integrated, and cleverly separated spaces.
Nick and Allison are nature lovers and it shows in the interior of the Ophelia. They have used organic porcelain tiles and mandala tiles on the entryway. For half of the bus, they have their flooring done in 3ft pebble tile and acacia for the rest of the bus.
Their plants adoring the front of the bus, as Allison loves them so much. The electrical system is installed in the front of the bus above the driver’s seat. In there, they have a heater pad for the lithium-ion batteries, and 600 amp-hour battle-born batteries. Their split AC panels come with a power switch for easy maneuvering. All of the electrical systems are carefully installed for unobstructed cross-ventilation.
Now we come to their kitchen with an L-shaped Calacatta gold quartz countertop to separate it from the living area. The kitchen has enough prep space, a deep sink, a cooktop, an oven, and a coffee station above as an added convenience. There are cabinets and drawers to keep the dishes and bowls. On the other side of the kitchen, they have accommodated a fridge-freezer combo with additional storage for dry food.
Even the kitchen is finished with natural materials. The mother-pearl peel-and-stick backsplash, acacia floor, and pine ceiling, everything down to the last bit is mesmerizing. It also has a fireplace which is a wonderful addition to keep warm in the winter.

To get some work done, they have designed a light-filled workspace as well. The living area is adjacent and it accommodates a comfortable sofa that pulls out into a queen-size bed for guests or just for them to lounge. The couple has made no compromises on comfort and quality and this living space is the epitome of it.
Furthermore, you can see a custom panel added at the front of the sofa from Thailand. Being art enthusiasts, they have decorated the home to be as artistic as possible. One example of that is the Samson TV frame that allows Allison to display her artwork, as she is an art teacher, and it even swivels making it easy for them to view it when they are lounging.
The hallway space with a tiny step leading to the bathroom and bedroom is cleverly designed. The bathroom has a personality of its own. It is enclosed by a vintage door with stained glass and has a bathtub which is unlikely in a skoolie, a vanity sink, a toilet, and a tankless water heater fueled by propane.
There is a huge closet that fits both of their clothes and accessories, and dog beds. Adjacent is an adorable and luminous bedroom with a cozy bed, ample windows, cabinets, and amusing vibes. The 40ft Ophelia Skoolie is the haven that they have built with so much love and care. They are truly living their dream life full of natural wonders.
