The limited-edition Formation 02 smart toilet will debut at Salone del Mobile this month, and it’s creating buzz for all the right reasons. Developed by Kohler in collaboration with Samuel Ross’ industrial design studio, SR_A, this smart toilet breaks the monotony of most conventional toilet seats designed around the age-old patterns we are habitual of seeing everywhere.
The Kohler Formation 02 smart toilet has an interesting and unique mold-casted exterior texture that almost feels like a sculpture. The orange-colored toilet brings a touch of innovation in design and functionality. It boasts precision-engineered seams and angles. The creative vision of Samuel Ross is quite evident and prominent in the case of Formation 02. It draws inspiration from the way flowing water sculpts its surroundings. However, the bold brutalist exterior doesn’t signal that Kohler Formation 02 compromises on comfort and advanced tech used for cleanliness.
The smart home innovation is a core value of Kohler, and the Formation 02 smart toilet extends it with features such as customizable bidet cleansing, motion-activated opening/closing of the lid, and a heated seat. It takes integrated personal cleansing to new heights. The stainless steel wand boasts an adjustable spray shape and position. The user can control water pressure, temperature, and oscillate functions. The bowl is automatically misted before use to allow thorough rinsing while flushing. The front and rear wash modes offer warm water for cleansing. Also, the self-cleaning function incorporates UV light and electrolyzed water to completely clean the wand.

There is more to the Kohler Formation 02 smart toilet. It offers dual flush options to choose between a full or partial flush, a warm-air drying system, and an automatic deodorization system. It also offers trademark Quiet Close of lid and seat preventing them from slamming. There is even an LED light that illuminates the bowl, serving as a nightlight. All the advanced features of Formation 02 are available at the tip of the finger with LCD remote control integration. If there is a power outage then emergency flush can be used for up to 100 flushes! Furthermore, the smart toilet has a better flushing mechanism.
The design of the Formation 02 smart toilet scores well on ease of use and ergonomics apart from its advanced features. It extends comfort height in the form of chair-height seating along with an elongated bowl that feels roomy and comfortable.
The limited edition Kohler Formation 02 smart toilet will be available for interested buyers online starting April 16, 2024. The day Salone del Mobile will take off in Milan and this product by Kohler will make its first appearance at the grand event. The price of Formation 02 has been kept at $25,000.
